Traditional view about sans serif fonts was they are not a good choice for body text because it is very hard to read in a large block of type. Sans-serif was preferable choice for headings and headlines only. Using them in paragraphs was not considered as a good choice. But nowadays, as you all have noticed, the use of sans serif fonts for text is trend. This is because they are getting more and more readable and legible.
Coming to the point, today we are featuring 12 free and most professional Humanist Sand-Serif fonts. They are most readable form of sans-serif typeface today. What is Humanist Sans-Serif Fonts ? Lets learn from the two definitions.
According to Wikipedia:
These are the most calligraphic of the sans-serif typefaces, with some variation in line width and more readability than other sans-serif fonts.
According to Fontscape:
Sans-serif typefaces with oval shapes and variations in stroke thickness to create a more graceful, human appearance.
According to my personal view, both definitions are correct and acceptable, however the second one is more appropriate as it explains why it is more readable, i.e. the variation in strokes and thickness make them more readable than other sans-serif fonts. We can say that mixture of basic sans-serif fonts and calligraphic fonts can make a readable humanist sans-serif fonts (just basic thing which can be understood by everyone).
Some of the basic things which can be important to know about humanist fonts are:
- The axis of these fonts is between 25° and 45°.
- They have thick-thin strokes as if they are calligraphic fonts.
- They have a very open aperture. Aperture is the size of opening of characters like “a”, “e”, “s” etc..
